A superconducting dipole magnet is to be procured for the MADMAX project for the search for dark matter. The sample volume, magnetized to an average of more than 4 T over a length of 50 cm, must be able to accommodate a cylinder with a diameter of approximately 60 cm and must be directly accessible from both ends. The homogeneity of the magnetic field (B-field) within the sample volume should be better than 10%. The magnet must not exceed a length and height of 4 meters each, and a weight of 80 tons. It is scheduled to be installed at DESY Hamburg around 2030. Access to helium as a cooling medium in the hall will be provided by the client. The entire contract is divided into three phases and includes: Phase 1: Preparation of a design study and a budget offer for the construction of the magnet Phase 2: Preparation of a technical design report and manufacturing drawings, and submission of a binding offer for the construction of the magnet Phase 3: Production and delivery of the magnet, as well as support during commissioning Qualified companies are invited to express their interest in the project. It is expected that, within one month after the end of the notice period, a negotiated procedure with a restricted competitive bidding process will be initiated. This will include compensated preparation of the design study by up to three companies. Only companies that can demonstrate their qualification in the design, construction, and delivery of magnets of comparable size and that have expressed their interest in response to this prior information notice by September 9, 2025, will be eligible to participate in the negotiated procedure. Further information on the planned magnet specifications can be requested from the client after signing a NDA. Please express your interest by email to ausschreibung@mpp.mpg.de by 9 September 2025 at the latest.
